Within 15 minutes, I aim to confirm scope, name an incident lead, open a Slack channel and Zoom bridge, then push a two-sentence status at T+10. How are you structuring that window to move fast without creating noise — any wording or checkpoints that consistently work for your teams?
We automated the first 5 minutes: PagerDuty opens #inc-, invites @incident-commander, and posts a T+10 template — ‘impact, blast radius, next update time’ — it’s like bumpers on a bowling lane to curb noise. Small caveat: we lock the channel to roles until T+30, then widen; got better wording than ‘next update at HH:MM’ that your folks stick to?
I assign a scribe in minute one so the IC stays on decisions. > blast radius — we keep that and add one fixed line: checkpoint by HH:MM; sooner if the scope expands, which cut chatter about exact ETAs. Do you designate a scribe or have the IC send the first note?
At T+8, pin a one-line containment goal; make Slack threads-only. @comms okay?
We pre-commit to a simple guardrail: if there’s no confident mitigation by T+10, we “default to rollback” and the IC has to opt out in-channel. In that 15-minute window we also pause deploys and run a 30‑second upstream dependency check so we know who to page beyond the Slack channel and Zoom bridge. Do you pre-authorize that in change control, or is that too rigid for your teams?
